People in your household

This is a general estimate based only on what you enter — not a determination of eligibility, an application, or an offer of coverage. Only your state Medicaid agency can determine Medicaid eligibility. CoverageCo is a licensed insurance agency, not a government agency.

How Medicaid eligibility works

Medicaid is run by each state, so the rules — and the income limits — depend on where you live. Two things decide most of it.

Your income vs. the poverty level

Eligibility is measured against the federal poverty level (FPL) for your household size. In states that expanded Medicaid, most adults qualify up to 138% of the FPL. Children and pregnant women often qualify at higher limits.

Whether your state expanded Medicaid

41 states plus D.C. adopted Medicaid expansion, which covers most low-income adults. In the 10 states that haven't, adults — especially those without children — can fall into a "coverage gap" and may need other options.

What happens if you're over the line

Being over the Medicaid limit doesn't mean you're out of options. Many people qualify for private Marketplace coverage with financial help that lowers the monthly cost. That's the conversation a licensed agent can walk you through.

Lost Medicaid, or just found out you don’t qualify?

You’re not stuck. Losing Medicaid can open a special window to get Marketplace coverage — often with financial help — and a licensed agent can find your best fit and handle the paperwork with you. It costs nothing to talk it through.

Questions & answers

Does this tool tell me if I officially qualify for Medicaid?

No. It gives a general estimate based on the information you enter and published federal poverty guidelines. Only your state Medicaid agency can make an official eligibility determination. A licensed agent can help you understand your estimate and, if you don't qualify, find coverage you can get.

I lost my Medicaid — what should I do?

Losing Medicaid (including for missed paperwork during renewal) can open a Special Enrollment Period to get Marketplace coverage, often with financial help that lowers your monthly cost. Timing matters, so it's worth talking to a licensed agent quickly to review your options.

I make too much for Medicaid. Do I have any options?

Usually yes. Many people just over the Medicaid limit qualify for private Marketplace (ACA) coverage with premium tax credits. A licensed agent can check what you'd pay after any savings you qualify for.

Is CoverageCo part of Medicaid or the government?

No. The Coverage Company is a private, licensed insurance agency. We are not Medicaid, Medicare, HealthCare.gov, or any government agency, and we are not affiliated with or endorsed by any government program.
